That's what the new CEO, Masa-michi Kogai stated, proving that he is just another visionless corporate tool.

I think every Opponaut should be appointed to the CEO position of a car company and have complete control over the company's direction. Expect every company to have at least one brown diesel wagon, most likely rwd and manual.

I agree to some extent, but Mazda has to get its finances in order before it can invest in the novelty that is the Wankel.

Novelty > commercial viability, indeed! What a soulless hack!

Sadly, unless something significant changes, we're unlikely to see another rotary engined car. The amount of development that's gone on with petrol and diesel piston engines since the last time Mazda made a rotary is huge, and there's no way anyone's going to put the money into rotaries needed to catch up.
Maybe someone will at some point do something clever in applying some of the new tech to rotaries and the benefits will feed through, but that'll still require the development of a whole new engine as a minimum.
It's a shame, but I think it'll take a pretty radical development - some new invention - coming along before anyone will take another look at rotaries. They definitely have advantages, but those advantages are more suited to other vehicles than cars.

I don't care about Rotaries, and even I can agree this is bullshit.

Gasp, every car they make is amazing, but they won't invest time and effort in our niche engine! BURN THE COMPANY DOWN.
